Overview of the Nebraska Transportation Center
The development and maintenance of a rapid, safe, and efficient transportation system is critical to the economic health of Nebraska. As such, the University of Nebraska has developed many widely respected transportation education, research, and outreach programs at NU. The success of these programs is illustrated by the more than $10 million dollars in transportation research now underway at the University of Nebraska.
As can be seen in the accompanying diagram the NTC consists of numerous research groups. The groups are divided based on area of specialty and the NTC is set up to conduct research in all facets of transportation. To find out more about any or our research groups please select the appropriate title on the diagram below and you will be brought to the informational page for this gorup. For example, to find out about the work done at the NTC's Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, which has garnered a truly international reputation in the design of roadside safety devices, simply select the Structural and Safety Engineering group, and navigate to the MwRSF website.
Vision Statement
The vision of the Nebraska Transportation Center is to become a nationally and internationally recognized center of transportation excellence focused on developing new knowledge, innovative solutions, and the next generation of experts necessary to sustain the U.S. transportation system in the most safe, effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly manner possible. Toward that end, NTC will develop and deliver premier programs in research, education, and technology transfer.
In summary, our vision is to produce engineering products and processes that save lives, reduce risk, reduce cost and produce future leaders in the transportation field.
Information on our three core areas of focus can be found below:
NTC will make fundamental advancements in basic and theoretical research related to all modes of the U.S. surface transportation system.
NTC will produce a cohort of trained professionals – well-qualified to take positions in academia, government and industry – to provide the next-generation expertise vital to the nation's transportation system
NTC will develop user-friendly delivery mechanisms specifically geared toward transferring the Center's knowledge to public and private sector transportation workers in Nebraska and throughout the U.S.
