Driving Collaborative Research in Nebraska

Welcome to the NTC!

Welcome to the NTC website. NTC is the umbrella organization for transportation research at the University of Nebraska and represents a unique partnership between the University of Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR), other state government agencies, and the private sector. The overall goal of the NTC is to conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research that effectively addresses the transportation problems facing the state, region and nation. We are committed to having a major impact on the states economy by improving transportation systems, increasing the competitiveness of its industries, and attracting high-ability faculty and students to the state.

There are over 50 researchers affiliated with NTC and our sponsors include Federal Highway Administration, Federal Railway Administration, Nebraska Department of Roads, Environmental Protection Agency, Union Pacific Railway, and various state and local transportation agencies. Dr. Dean Sicking, Director of the NTCs MidWest Roadside Safety Facility, has attained an international recognition for innovative work in crash barriers both for private industry (NASCAR, Indy Racing League) and public agencies (NDOR, USDOT). Dr. Andy Nowak, the Robert W. Brightfelt Professor of Engineering, Distinguished Professor of Civil Structural Engineering, is internationally famous in the field of risk analysis in relation to transportation infrastructure. Dr. Maher Tadros is the Charles J. Vranek Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil Enginering. Dr. Tadros research is at the forefront of concrete bridge technology in the United States and his work has garnered numerous awards including the prestigious T.Y. Lin Award (four times) which is jointly given by the PCI, the ACI and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

We are also proud to be the headquarters of the Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC) which was recently designated the Region VII University Transportation Center by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Our partners include Lincoln University, Kansas State University, the University of Iowa, the University of Missouri-Rolla, and the University of Kansas. The $6.2 million dollar UTC provides funding for research, education and technology transfer programs for Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Kansas.

We have designed this website to provide information to current and prospective students, alumni, industry representatives, professional colleagues, and friends. We hope you find this site helpful. Please feel free to contact NTC with any questions, comments, or suggestions. We appreciate your interest and welcome your input.
