Dr. Bob Bielenberg, a Research Engineer and Assistant Director of the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, is investigating the crashworthiness of roadside hardware impacted by battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as their numbers increase on the roadway. “Crashworthiness of Roadside Hardware Impacted by Battery Electric Vehicles” is a research in progress that began in August with the aim to perform an initial investigation into the crashworthiness of some common generic roadside hardware when impacted by BEVs and to develop a framework for future testing. The project tasks can be seen on the Transportation Research Board project page.
