The Midwest Roadside Safety Facility Open House took place September 9 earlier this semester and featured an overview of the center, outlined student opportunities, and showcased a full scale crash test.
Midwest Roadside Safety Facility (MwRSF) is a research facility at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln focusing on all aspects of safety and design, especially on highways. The open house allowed the center to introduce their team and the ongoing research at MwRSF along with the scope of technology to which they have access. Their crash test facility is a big advantage to MwRSF’s research, and after a provided lunch, guests were invited to attend a full-scale crash test at the site.
MwRSF employs full time faculty and staff and houses many graduate researchers, but the open house was a chance to emphasize their undergraduate opportunities. Throughout the year, undergraduate research assistant positions become available at both their test site and main office for civil engineering, mechanical and materials engineering, construction management, and mechanized systems management students.
