The Nebraska Transportation Center will host the next Transportation Engineering Seminar Series presentation, "Beyond LLMs: AI Agents for Transportation and the Built Environment," on Friday September 18, 2026. The seminar will be presented by Dr. Kyungki Kim, Assistant Professor in the Durham School of Architectural Engineering & Construction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Recent advances in large language models and multimodal AI are creating new opportunities for transportation and built-environment research. During the seminar, Dr. Kim will discuss how AI agents combine language models, computer vision, engineering tools, and robotic systems to address complex engineering challenges.
The presentation will highlight applications such as AI-assisted construction inspection, engineering drawing interpretation, and multimodal data analysis. Attendees will also learn about the capabilities and current limitations of modern AI systems and how agent-based approaches can help bridge gaps between emerging technologies and real-world engineering needs.
The seminar is open to students, faculty, industry professionals, and practitioners interested in the future of artificial intelligence in transportation and infrastructure. Participants may attend in person at UNL or remotely via Zoom and can earn one Professional Development Hour (PDH) for attending.
